In maart neemt Toshare00 Zinnema over. We nodigen je daarom graag uit voor de openingsavond van Toshare00 op 1 maart.

Van 26 tot 31 maart komen we weer samen onder de vlag van het Listen Festival. We zijn terug met onze gekende formule: 6 dagen Clubbing, Concerten, Expo, Workshops & Talks op verschillende locaties in Brussel.

Louise van den Heuvel is a dynamic Dutch bass player and composer. She's known for blending modern music technologies and effect pedals in her compositions rooted in the contemporary electronic jazz scene. Tonight she's her own band in solo-setting, hinting to ambient music as Nala Sinephro, Gustaf Ljunngren and Floating Points.

What kind of beautious melodic possibilities can be found outside the always enchanting Arabic maqam system? How about some harmonies with microtones? Which scales or maqamat were used during the Primatomorphid era on the polar areas of Callisto, Jupiter’s second largest moon? These are some of the topics Belgian saxophonist Fabrizio Cassol and Finnish pianist Kari Ikonen are exploring during their residency and concert at Werkplaats Walter.

Farida Amadou:
A self taught bass player based in Brussels. The electric bass is her main instrument since 2011. In 2013, she has started playing a lot of different musical genres, including blues, jazz and hip-hop. Soon Farida started to dive into impro and got noticed quickly. After a passage of a year as a bass player in punk band Cocaine Piss, Farida decided to focus on her solo improvisational practice and collaborations with musicians like Steve Noble, Thurston Moore, Peter Brötzmann, Terrie Ex, Lukas Koening, Pat Thomas and Julien Desprez. She also featured in occasional projects such as "Jerusalem in My Heart" and "Moor Mother". But tonight solo in Walter.

Jozef Dumoulin:
Known for his open and luminous approach to music, always anchored in tradition without being burdened by it. Highly-demanded as a sideman, he has recorded and toured with the finest of musicians in the domain of jazz, improvised music, new music, rock and traditional music. He currently lives in Paris and lands from time to time at Walter.
Today he presents a new solo opus entitled 'This Body, This Life', released on Carton Records (Lyon). An excursion towards mysterious and highly original territories, without open references but connected to a whole field of possibilities.

Jazz is een fascinerende muziekvorm van de zwarte mensen uit de Verenigde Staten, ontstaan aan het einde van de 19de eeuw en wereldwijd bekend geraakt vanaf de jaren dertig van de 20ste eeuw.
Toch heerst er nog veel verwarring over het wezen van de muziek en de muzikanten. Professor Piet Van de Craen (lid van de Antwerpse Jazzclub) brengt dit voorjaar weer boeiende voordrachten rond jazz.

Het orkest van pianist Count Basie is een van de legendarische orkesten uit de jazzmuziek. Deze reeks schetst in vijf afleveringen het ontstaan, de evolutie, de invloed en de impact van de grote solisten, naast uiteraard aandacht voor pianist en leider William ‘Count’ Basie. Zoals steeds rijkelijk met films en syllabus geïllustreerd.

Woensdag 24 januari 2024: Ontstaan van het orkest en grote solisten zoals Lester Young en Hershel Evans.
Basie wordt toevallig bandleader in Kansas City als de orkestleider bij wie hij toen actief is, Bennie Moten, onverwachts sterft.
Via de radio wordt het orkest ontdekt en komt het naar New York waar het sensatie verwekt mede door de twee tenorsaxofonisten Lester Young en Hershel Evans.
eze aflevering schetst met klank en beeld deze historische gebeurtenissen en laat zien hoe het orkest in de jaren 1930-1940 wereldberoemd wordt.
